Using Chalkboard Paint To Decorate Your Child's Room

Posted on: 25 February 2015

Designing your child's bedroom can be exciting and challenging at the same time. Painting is an important part of interior design, because it has the potential to change the entire look and feel of a room. Young children will often mark on walls as well as furniture and this can deface them. However, this tendency to draw or mark on things can be used to your advantage when decorating your child's room if you use chalkboard paint. Chalkboard paint is a fun way to use paint to create areas in your child's room where they can express their creativity by writing or drawing on the walls or furniture in their room.

Paint A Whole Wall

Chalkboard walls are a great way to let your child write or draw on the walls of their room to enhance the décor. You can paint one or two of the walls in chalkboard paint. Chalkboard paint comes in various colors, the most popular being black. If you decide to use black chalkboard paint on the walls, then you should paint the other walls in bright colors using regular paint or colored chalkboard paint, since black paint tends to make the room look dull. If you choose to use colored chalkboard paint on any of the walls in your child's room, then you should let your child pick out their favorite color.

Paint Shapes On The Wall

You do not have to paint an entire wall with the paint. You can create shapes with the paint and then have your child use that area as a chalkboard. For example, you could paint a big tree, a giant apple or a huge bear on the wall. The key here is to use images that appeal to your child. If you are artistically challenged, you might want to try hiring an artist for this project; however, half the fun is in what you can manage to create on your own.

Paint Furniture

One or both sides of a dresser is the perfect place to create a canvas for your child with chalkboard paint of any color. Writing and drawing areas can also be created when you paint the bottom half of bedside lamps, if the surface is big enough. Creating drawing and writing spaces on furniture will personalize the room and make it stand out.

Chalkboard paint is fun to use and with a little creativity you can use it to create a bedroom that your child will appreciate every single day. Contact an interior design company like Botany Decorating for more information.
